Musical dialogue: “Horizons of Resonance: Exploring Sound and Spontaneity” is the first community event of 2025 organised by Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA).

“One can also think of free improvisation as a possibility for a pragmatic music open to an infinite variation in which the systems and idioms no longer impose their abstract grammars and yield to a fruitful action, to a time in a pure state, not causal, not hierarchical, not linear…”*

Led by cellist Bryan Charles Wilson and pioneering electronic musician Trí Minh, the program aims to create an interactive space that sparks dialogues about improvisation in sound performance, the interplay between structure and non-structure, and the fusion between acoustic and electronic sounds in music.

In this special encounter, the two artists will guide the audience through dynamic soundscapes, blending the expressive accents of cello with experimental sounds of synthesizers and digital signal processors. The latter half of the program invites the audience to engage directly with the artists, offering a deeper exploration of the history, foundations, and techniques of spontaneous composition and performance, as well as insights into the personal practices of Bryan Charles Wilson and Trí Minh.

Artist Trí Minh

Trí Minh began his career as a performing artist in the early 1990s, co-founding Hanoi’s first jazz band and performing extensively throughout the capital for many years. In the late 1990s, he ventured into electronic music, collaborating with both Vietnamese and international art programs.

During the mid to late 2000s, Trí Minh started composing and performing with leading traditional music artists and classical musicians in Vietnam. More recently, he has expanded his work to include live performances with dance troupes and models, as well as composing for documentaries and short films.

Trí Minh has established himself as an experienced electronic music performer and a studio expert, building strong connections with international artists across diverse musical fields.
