Is Classical Music always tranquil and intellectual? To answer this question, there have been many examples of intensity in history such as Wagner's Die Walkure, Rossini's William Tell Ouverture, or Vivaldi's Summer, etc. to the point that these works have broken the boundaries of musical genres and entered our daily lives. The urgent rhythm is perhaps the common feature of works in this group; within the Classical music repertoire, there are countless works representing other emotional shades. And in the history of the piano sonata genre, Beethoven's Sonata No. 29 Opus106 in B flat major is a work that represents grandeur.
“Hammerklavier” is the nickname of the most massive of Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas, and willalso be the name of the 8th program in the Concert Series “Beethoven Piano Sonatas Cycle”.
Usually, the name of a famous masterpiece is often a groundbreaking noun, but for Hammerklavier, the literal translation is simply “the piano”. This is a large sonata with the scale of a symphony, which has left a mark on posterity. If we happen to have a question about how much the sonata form of the Classical period developed, then the masterpiece Sonata Op. 106 is certainly a huge mark of Beethoven in this important musical form.
Together with the smaller scale sonata No. 19 (Op. 49 No. 1), Hammerklavier promises to bring a harmonious concert to classical music lovers.
