The exhibition displays 37 oil paintings, curated by Lân Tinh Foundation, celebrating a tremendous milestone in the artist’s career. “Morphing Wonders” is a fusion of observations transformed by the artist’s imagination. Through the accumulation of familiar imagery from the objective world, these elements are reinterpreted and reconstructed, forming entirely new subjective realms. The exhibition space is organised into 3 thematic sections: artificial materials, biological structures, and natural phenomena/elements. One calls objects and events that seem ordinary “Wonders” because of a profound sense of appreciation to the constants in life. Calling them “Wonders” is like once again rediscovering the halo for the beauty that is overshadowed by the timeworn, forgotten structures or phenomena that hold feelings of desolation and regret. Through the unfiltered lens of the naked eye, original data is altered and restructured into new objects and events - “Morphing”. Việt Anh’s artworks intertwine sharp strokes and refined curves, all of which seem to ...

For the longest time, sculpture’s place was always on public sites, where it could fully utilize its combinatorial property, interact with space and light, and interlace itself with natural scenery and the public. Yet, modern Vietnamese sculpture became subdued as it was detached from its natural habitat and inherent cohesive nature. Despite this, passionate and relentless creative efforts continue, which is evident in small-scale sculptures by individuals in private spaces. It was such tendencies that resurrected the Vietnamese modern sculpture scene over the past decade when sculptures traveled from the artists’ studios to different environments, conversing with different contexts. These movements create an exhilarating and poetic atmosphere aiming to reimagine and reconstruct living spaces. The talk, featuring artist Đào Châu Hải, Thái Nhật Minh, Phạm Đình Tiến and architect Hoàng Minh Tuệ, and moderated by curator Đỗ Tường Linh, opened up diverse perspectives on the development of Vietnamese sculpture, highlighting new movements, changes, dynamics, and dialogues. Additionally, drawbacks and challenges regarding the creation and preservation of sculptural spaces, as well as suggestions for future directions, will also be discussed in the upcoming event. It can be said that ‘Dan Do’ was used as the group’s name for it’s sharp and clear sound that provokes fishery; the chum drum: a porcelain vase normally used to hold water, like a set of percussive instruments used to make echoing deep noises; pig drum: made from bamboo roots, with a short ‘naughty’ sound signature, etc. Dan Do also pushes to experiment on movement and form, combining homemade instruments with local and traditional ones to create a diverse stage of music. In this period, Nguyen Duc Phuong has become the fifth member. He records the group’s activities through art and sketches, therefore finding the turning point of individual art in the process of mixing dirt to use as powdered colors, searching for and attempting skills with lines, colors and surfaces, throughout the ...

Taking inspiration from the simple, familiar subjects such as streets, houses, trees, rivers and furniture, he transformed and changed their appearance. ‘RETROSPECTIVE’ by artist Le Kinh Tai
‘RETROSPECTIVE’ focuses on the matured artistic style of artist Le Kinh Tai that’s deeply personalized in his artworks. Having a spiritual nature, ‘airing out his ego on the canvas’ instead of just ‘conquering the visual beauty’, the artworks introduced in ‘RETROSPECTIVE’ are all special with deep meanings to them. The similarities between each piece are the satirical nuances, mocking of, and exploration of the issues that revolve around people’s ego, despite seeming to be hidden in the cultural and societal forms of communication, the conversation is simulated between ‘Humans' and ‘People’. With ‘RETROSPECTIVE’, Le Kinh Tai doesn’t simply ‘look back’ at the path walked but also reflects upon himself, looking at the stages of change deeply rooted in the 20 years of creation. Admiring artwork by Le Kinh Tai, the viewer can feel the positive energy between a space filled with the colors of life, of 21st century citizens, breathing with the modernity of a consumer society - where different values collide, conflict and mesh together. Le Kinh Tai is one of the special phenomenons in Vietnam’s contemporary art scene with a controversial style, receiving polarizing criticism from many different angles. The artist who graduated from Vietnam’s University of Art in 1997 has ...

Rene Magritte (Belgium, 1898-1967) and Frida Kahlo (Mexican, 1907-1954) can be seen as the two extremes of Surrealism and the negative. If Frida - who always paints his own reality, Rene paints everyone's reality - with a twist somewhere. Magritte's works, from murals, magazine covers, to classics, are all aimed at an audience. To interact with the audience, Magritte is interested in creating puzzles, unknowns, and visual tricks. He wanted to paint the impossible as a form of realistic expression, thus free from coincidences and coincidences, which was the opposite of contemporary Surrealist painters. Conversely, Frida Kahlo's work was introspective. She made her work for herself, true to her own vision, first and foremost about exploring her own identity. Like the painting "Two Fridas" painted in 1939, Kahlo uses painting to explore ‘the reality of her own body and her consciousness of that reality; in many cases the reality dissolves into a duality, exterior reality versus interior perception ...

"Colorful Silence" - Exhibition of Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard
"COLORFUL SILENCE" - A digital exhibition by Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard. From March 19, 2021, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) will open the digital exhibition "Colorful Silence" - to introduce 50 digital version works of two great artists - Frenchman Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard - the first time in Vietnam. Oscar-Claude Monet (1840 - 1926) was the founding painter of the French Impressionist School, who was consistent with the philosophy: emphasizing one's style of expressing perception before nature, especially with outdoor paintings. The term "Impression" is derived from the name of Monet's "Impression, Rising Sun" painting when it was displayed in the Impressionists' first independent exhibition at "Salon de Paris" in 1874. With the desire to capture images in the French countryside, Monet has applied the method of painting a scene many times at different times to record the changes in light and the changes of the seasons during the year. Pierre Bonnard (1967 - 1947) is considered as an important figure who "bridged" the School of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. In 1912, Bonnard moved to Vernonnet, not far from Giverny - Monet's home, the two quickly bonded, corresponded and regularly met. Contrary to Monet, Bonnard is known for its bold ...

ARTIST TALK "BATTLEFIELD SKETCHING AS VISUAL DIARY"
Sketching is a quick way of drawing with simplified lines to capture the spirit of the object. As Jean-Auguste Dominque Ingres (1780 - 1867) - a painter from the French Neo Classical School, a master of anatomy - once said: "Drawing is the honesty of art." The most difficult thing in this genre is that in a short time, the artist must capture the characteristics and "soul" of the object. During wartime when life is full with hardships, scarcity of art supplies and time constraint, sketching became an efficient, convenient form to document the rapid, hasty reality of the war. Occupying an important position in Vietnamese fine art, thousands of wartime sketch paintings by professional and amateur artists have honestly and vividly documented historical moments and various aspects of the war. They are priceless visual diaries, reflecting the vitality of Vietnamese revolutionary painting. We are pleased to present the talk "Battlefield Sketching as Visual Diary" with the participation of guest speakers: artists Le Tri Dung, Le Thiet Cuong and Doan Hoang Lam. The event will take place at 10 AM on Saturday, May 4. The conversation between artists of many generations, especially stories about their experiences of creating works during the Resistance War ...

"Great things are done by a series of small things brought together." - Vincent van Gogh. The legacy left by van Gogh today is in fact the result of a persistent creating process, with a tireless effort of exploring and experimenting. It is fascinating to see his inspiration shape his work throughout his career. When being inspired by an outside idea or influence, he would experiment with it over and over until it captured how he felt about a subject. Van Gogh tried really hard to understand his subjects symbolically and then tried to recreate the essence of it in his work. You can see his mindset and inspiration evolve literally every year - all of it reflected in the style of his paintings - each year growing more and more distinct. VCCA is pleased to present "Van Gogh and His Self-discovery through Art Experimentation" - a talk led by Alexia Serpentini, an artist, independent developer and researcher, to help you better understand the art of Vincent van Gogh, one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. ----- Alexia Serpentini is lifelong listener who loves helping people share stories in creative ways. STROKE – LUU CONG NHAN
In Luu Cong Nhan’s profile, his place of birth is always written to be in the Lau Thuong village, Hac Tri, Phu Tho and he was a pupil of painter To Ngoc Van. The root of birth place follows him throughout his life, feeding and making the simple, rustic, and charming beauty in his paintings. As we have already known, in 1950, the Viet Nam Fine Arts College was established in the Viet Bac war zone (Phu Tho) by To Ngoc Van as the principal, teachers were some painters graduated in Indochinese Fine Arts School. Technique as well as the basic knowledge of painting taught by teacher To Ngoc Van and other teachers created a solid foundation for students to develop their talents. The Paris school flourishing in the early twentieth century had illuminated the Indochinese School of Fine Arts (founded in 1924) through the prism of French teachers, then refracted again to Resistance painters through Vietnamese teachers, which were the first students of the school. It can be said that Luu Cong Nhan and some other artists were the most successful "interpreters" of the Paris school into the "Vietnamese language". The beauty in Luu Cong Nhan’s paintings was always combined ...

He was a tall, talented, charming, knowledgeable and polite like a male character who only exitsts in poet and romance story. He was raised in a wealthy family, had an overwhelming political background, an excelent academic foundation of all the counterparts and he was really hard working. And above all, he had talent in art. His works was phenomena. But his career path was not easy because he want to follow his own path. Studying in Viet Bac, as a typical wanderer, when drawing, he also felt the harmony with love and used elegant curves with beautiful colors. Influenced by his teacher To Ngoc Van, perhaps because of the same talents and the love with the smooth and the liberty within the perfection and can not accept the sloppy style in his professional works. Women - the residence of Beauty – is the main theme in his artworks. However in Luu Cong Nhan, beside the elegance as in “Beside the lily flower” is the simplicity of “Countryside woman”, as well as “The little guerilla woman” which have never been seen in Vietnamese paintings. He followed the lyrical style of Indochinese painting with the optimistic reality of the Resistance War. Talents showed up ...
