Concert “Trong bao la”
“Trong bao la” is a concert organized by Vincom Center for Contemporary Arts (VCCA), incollaboration with Sức Sống Mới (New Vitality Orchestra), conductor: Đồng Quang Vinh.
The concert brings a diverse range of works, spanning from traditional to modern, from East toWest, combining various genres, including symphonies, folk songs, pop... These works are all arranged for traditional instruments with a youthful and fresh style but still imbued with the spirit and native tones.
“Trong bao la” invites audiences to explore the expressive potential of traditional Vietnamese instruments, while also opening up a musical space that erase geographical distances, whereyou can have the opportunity to listen and experience familiar work with a burst of freshness, including: Trống cơm, Đất nước lời ru, Waltz No. 2, Ode to Joy - Symphony No. 9, etc.
About Sức Sống Mới (New Vitality) Orchestra
Founded in 2013 by conductor Đồng Quang Vinh, Sức Sống Mới is the only bamboo orchestra in Vietnam that performs traditional and classical music from both Vietnam and global, witharrangements by Đồng Quang Vinh in a symphonic style, using instruments specially crafted by Đồng Văn Minh (the father of Đồng Quang Vinh) - a master of bamboo music. Not only does Sức Sống Mới frequently perform at high-quality concerts in Vietnam, but it has also been invited to perform at numerous international music festivals. Since 2022, the orchestra has expanded intoDàn nhạc Dân tộc Sức Sống Mới (New Vitality Orchestra), with a larger ensemble and a wider variety of instruments from ethnic groups across the three regions of Vietnam. The orchestra is currently managed and coordinated by Sức Sống Mới Bamboo Music Social Enterprise Co., Ltd.
About conductor Đồng Quang Vinh
Đồng Quang Vinh is a talented young conductor who is frequently invited to conduct many leading orchestras in China, Vietnam, and Southeast Asia. He has represented Vietnam multipletimes on many major international stages. In July 2013, after 9 years of receiving scholarships from the Vietnamese and Chinese governments, Đồng Quang Vinh completed his training at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China. He graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Orchestral Conducting, achieving the highest academic distinction in his class, and has returned to contribute to Vietnam.
Vinh has conducted young symphony orchestras in Shanghai, winning numerous First Prizes andGold Medals in national and international competitions for symphony orchestras in China. In January 2018, he was selected by the U.S. government as the sole representative from Southeast Asia among 18 countries worldwide to participate in the "Promoting Social Change Through the Arts" project, part of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program was held across five major cities in the U.S. over the course of three weeks. In October 2023, Vinh was selected by the Japanese government to conduct the Vietnam-Japan Dream Symphony Orchestra on a tour across six cities in Japan, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Vinh has conducted numerous symphonies, concertos, and suites by composers from various periods, ranging from Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Mozart to Rachmaninoff, Debussy, Ravel, and Carl Orff. He has also conducted many classic ballet and opera plays such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Carmen, and Les Miserables. Additionally, he has arranged and orchestrated hundreds of classical pieces as well as folk music from both Vietnam and other countries, contributing to cultural and artistic exchanges domestically and internationally.
