Hanoi – Saigon Sculpture Exhibition 2024
From August 3rd to September 3rd 2024, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) will present the Hanoi – Saigon Sculpture Exhibition 2024 with nearly 100 artworks from 37 artists across Vietnam. This marks the second time VCCA has accompanied the exhibition series, promoting the development of Vietnamese modern sculpture, as well as bridging the gap between art and the general public.
Hanoi – Saigon Sculpture Exhibition 2024 introduces nearly 100 artworks from 37 artists of various generations across the country, including both established and emerging names. This year's edition emphasizes the dynamic between the old and the new in an effort to navigate modern sculpture’s position in the general heritage of Vietnamese sculpture.
Modern sculptors, as they inherit the rich and enchanting visual language and materials from Indigenous cultures, persist and expand their creative practices using resources specific to the modern age. They utilize a range of materials such as composite, metal, stone, spray foam, and found objects, and draw inspiration from timeless themes like love and nature as well as modern societal and personal issues. This approach reflects the multidimensionality of modern Vietnamese sculpture.
Hanoi Saigon Sculpture Exhibition 2024 features works by pioneering sculptors Đào Châu Hải and Lê Thị Hiền, alongside artists such as Đào Tân, Đinh Duy Tôn, Đỗ Hà Hoài, Hoàng Mai Thiệp, Hoàng Tường Minh, Huỳnh Bảo Trung, Khổng Đỗ Tuyền, Lê Anh Vũ, Lê Hoàng Phi Hùng, Lê Lạng Lương, Lê Quý Đức, Lê Xuân Cang, Lương Trịnh, Nguyễn Duy Mạnh, Nguyễn Huy Tính, Nguyễn Kiến Thức, Nguyễn Nguyên Hà, Nguyễn Thế Trường, Nguyễn Thị Kim Liên, Nguyễn Trung Chính, Nguyễn Trường Giang, Nguyễn Tuấn Hoàng, Nguyễn Vinh, Phạm Bảo Sơn, Phạm Đình Tiến, Phạm Đình Tuấn, Phạm Nguyễn Quốc Huy, Phạm Quang Ngọc, Phạm Thái Bình, Phạm Văn Tuấn, Thái Nhật Minh, Trần Đình Thắng, Trần Trọng Tri, Trần Việt Hưng and Vũ Tuấn Đạt.
Throughout the month of the exhibition, artists and art practitioners will gather to exchange ideas, discuss career prospects, and inspire emerging generations to move forward in the right direction to gradually reshape the future of Vietnamese sculpture. Additionally, VCCA also supports organizing educational activities such as talks and workshops to help the mass audience better understand and appreciate the spirit of the exhibition as well as sculpture as an art form.
Hanoi – Saigon Sculpture Exhibition is a biannual exhibition held alternately between Northern and Southern Vietnam since 2010, to foster connections and exchanges about the artistic atmosphere from both ends of the country, as well as facilitate creative endeavors and promote the voice of sculptors. With the aim to actively contribute to the general heritage of this distinct art form, VCCA is proud to host the exhibition for the second time, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Hanoi – Saigon sculpture group in redefining Vietnamese sculpture.
Prior to this, VCCA has also organized many sculpture-centric initiatives such as Silk Painting and Small Sculpture Exhibition (2018), Bootcamp and Exhibition Transforming (2021), In Betweenness Exhibition (2022). These events have expanded the creative environment for artists and provided opportunities for high-quality sculptures to reach a broader audience.
