The ‘ASK’ exhibition
The exhibition has been curated by painter Le Thiet Cuong, with the presence of 9 artists living and working in the Hanoi - Saigon area, including: Trần Văn An, Quách Bắc, Ngô Đình Bảo Châu, Nguyễn Trần Cường, Đỗ Hiệp, Trịnh Cẩm Nhi, Thái Nhật Minh, Vũ Bình Minh, Lương Văn Việt.
‘ASK’ gives way to many artistic questions: what is painting? What is sculpting? What is arrangement art? What is art in general? Questions from everywhere, never before have artists brought the answer to ‘destiny’ by ‘personalizing the present’. Each occurrence had been ‘asked’ and ‘answered’ in their own way. Some artist take inspiration from the mundane things in life, like in the ‘Ashes’ series of sculptures by Tran Van Anh or the series of arrangement pieces ‘quotes’, taken from direct experiences of Ngo Dinh Bao Chau after the horrifying period of floods which happened in the central region of Vietnam. Or the minimalist shapes that show the desires of humans by Luong Van Viet.
Some artists found the wide and open nature like in the large sculptures of Vu Binh Minh, or felt themselves in the mesmerizing flow of time and space like in the paintings of Nguyen Tran Cuong, other artists create entirely new passionate worlds and ideologies like in the bronze sculptures by Thai Nhat Minh or the paintings by Trinh Cam Nhi. Or with Quach Bac, Do Hiep, fiddling with the questions in arrangements of paintings and lighting that shows passion and personality.
With an interesting way of thinking, each artist explores new possibilities found in painting, sculpture and arrangements through experimenting with new, non-traditional methods of using shapes, colors and materials. 45 artworks by 9 artists are the questions that look for ways to show and bring new experiences and emotions to the viewer.
