From April 20, 2024, Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) opens a digital exhibition called "Image Re-image". The exhibition introduces classic works of Cubism, one of the revolutionary painting movements in art history, with more than 130 artworks by six world-famous artists: Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Jean Metzinger, Fernand Leger, Marie Laurencin and Marcel Duchamp.

Cubism, a revolutionary movement in the early 20th century art scene, stands as one of the most transformative visual styles of its time. Amidst the backdrop of evolving societies, shifting patronage, and diverse geographic landscapes, the past five centuries have witnessed a kaleidoscope of artistic schools and styles. Yet, none have left as indelible a mark on Western painting as Cubism.

Objects were fractured and reimagined, their essence distilled into geometric shards adrift in a shallow, relief-like expanse. As Cubism evolved, its early discernible subjects dissolved into a kaleidoscope of overlapping planes and monochromatic hues, epitomised by the enigmatic works of Picasso and Braque during Analytic Cubism (1910–12).

Despite its abstract veneer, Cubism retained a semblance of recognizable motifs, from still lifes to human forms, often interwoven with symbolic letters. Picasso and Braque's pioneering spirit resonated across continents, inspiring a legion of artists—from Fernand Leger to Marcel Duchamp—to embrace this revolutionary visual lexicon. The deliberate inclusion of Marie Laurencin, the sole female artist featured in the exhibition, serves as a poignant endeavor to illuminate the often-overlooked contributions of women artists within the annals of global art history.

At the exhibition, artworks will be displayed alternately and automatically through a variety of projection media with high resolutions and different sizes. In a minimalist designed space with all light sources restrained to focus only on the artwork, the artworks become the only prominent and vivid objects, drawing viewers into a colorful universe of painting, and amazement between the dialogues of lines, shapes, and colors.

During the exhibition, VCCA will also organize events such as art tours, talks, workshops, etc., thereby bringing academic art closer to the public through many activities.
