Unexpected paths: Views from Europe’
Photography exhibition ‘Unexpected paths: Views from Europe’ organized by Hanoi French institute, L’Espace along with Vincoms Center for Contemporary Art from 12/05/2021. The exhibition brings artworks by 8 photographers from 8 different European countries, each project has been curated by the national culture administration, aimed to bring new points of view and hopes to narrow the space between culture and concerns.
Through the eye of foreign photographers, Vietnam appears on a different spectrum from what we normally see. If the project by Nguyen Thi My Lien (Swedish) describes the journey of studying and respecting core cultural values that affect personal life, then Alexandre Garel (French) admires the uniqueness of modern Southern Vietnamese architecture, while AVictorie Sivik (Polish) brings the viewer to the world of Hanoi’s underground music scene. Meanwhile, Nic Shonfeld (English) worked with local fashion designers to breathe new life into the weavers of the minorities of the mountainous regions of Vietnam.
Moreover, the project by Malte Sanger (German) researches the innovations in technology that are slowly moving into people’s living environment, while Loes Heerink (Dutch) asks a question about the collaboration between us and nature. Directly after, we have a story about the bravery shown by fishermen of the Mammellone sea by Roselena Ramistella (Italian), and colorful architectural pictures by Elodie Ledure (Belgian) . These projects lead the viewer through unexpected turns, introducing us to many different lives and ideas that are seemingly far off.
Through these pictures, the prism of life is observed. We can see that life is not a linear story with a neat and tidy ending; it has many twists and turns that are different for each individual.
The exhibition is open from 12/05/2021 to 12/06/2021 at Vincoms Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA), B1-R3 Vincom Royal City, 72 Nguyễn Trãi, Thanh Xuân, Hà Nội.
