ART TALK: "SPACE AS MEDIUM: CONVERSATION ON INSTALLATION ART"

VCCA is proud to present "Space as Medium: Conversation on Installation Art" with the participation of artist Trương Quế Chi and Curator Mizuki Endo - Art Director of VCCA. The event will take place at 10am, Saturday, January 12, 2019

 

Have been existed for more than 50 years and become widely known in the world, installation art, yet, is relatively new and not easy to approach for almost Vietnamese public. The Saturday talk will introduce to the audience basic information about installation art, including its formation, development, characteristics. Besides, the conversation and sharing from Trương Quế Chi on her artistic practice also help the audience visualize and get to know more about the genre.

Trương Quế Chi

Trương Quế Chi is an M.A. graduate of Film Studies from the University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle, active in both the visual art and cinema scene as a filmmaker, an artist and a curator. Her practice examines the spectacle of everyday violence in Vietnam and delves into the complex relationship between archive, memory and imagination. Her works have been featured at various local and international film festivals, exhibitions, and symposiums, including ‘Asian Film Focus 2017: Time Machine’, Objectifs–Centre for Photography and Film, Singapore; ‘Skylines with Flying People 3’, Nhà Sàn Collective, Vietnam (2015-2017); ‘South by Southeast. A Further Surface’, Times Museum, China (2016); ‘Oberhausen International Film Festival’, Germany (2015); ‘Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin/Madrid’, Gaité Lyrique, Paris, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (2015); and ‘Torino Film Festival’, Italy (2014). Trương Quế Chi is currently a member of Nhà Sàn Collective’s curator board since 2015 and a film lecturer at the Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema.

 

Curator Mizuki Endo

 

Doctor Mizuki Endo is responsible for VCCA’s professional issues, exhibitions, and artistic quality. He is a manager, consultant and writer in Hanoi and Kyoto. He is also the founder and CEO of the non-profit Higashiyama Artists Placement Service. Endo established three artist-run spaces in Asia: Art Space Tetra (Fukuoka, 2004), Future Prospects Art Space (Manila, 2005) and Playroom (Mito, 2007). Mizuki Endo was awarded the 3rd Lorenzo Bonaldi Art Prize (Bergamo, 2005). He is also the networking curator of Singapore Biennale 2007, director of ARCUS Project (Moriya, Japan, 2007-2010), curator of CREAM: international festival for arts and media Yokohama (2009), collaborative curator of Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2009, guest curator of “Perfect Moment” - solo show of Yutaka Sone (Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, 2011), and residence program director of Kunisaki Art Project(Oita, Japan, 2014).
